The population of the United States is an aging one. More than 30% Americans will be over 65 by 2050, according to projections by population experts. This means a great whole of population will experience features common to aging such as decreased cognitive and motor functions. Jim Joseph, the Director of the Neuroscience Laboratory at the Usda Human nutrition research Centre (Hnrc), has been conducting tests into how features common to aging can be reduced or mitigated through the eating of blueberries by humans. His first corollary shows that eating blueberries can prevent sure effects of aging. Other experts have come to the same windup after tests into the issue. Here are some of the reasons why you should eat blueberries to prevent aging.

Antioxidant performance Of Blueberries

Antioxidants are believed to help the body to shield humans against chronic illnesses which occur as the body ages. They are also connected with the safety of humans against the damage which free radicals can cause in the body system. However, blueberries comprise many antioxidants such as Vitamin C and E. Researchers say 14 mg of Vitamin C and 0.8 mg of Vitamin E per cup of blueberries are contained in the berry. The implication of this is that like many fresh fruits blueberries may help to prevent aging performance in people.

Compounds Act as Antioxidants

Anthocyanins and phenolics are compounds which also act as antioxidants. However, blueberries also comprise these eleMents within its structure. The four antioxidants which are contained in the berry makes it to be considered as having more antioxidant performance than many other fruits and vegetables, which comprise the compounds.

ExperiMents on Rats

Joseph fed blueberry extractions to rats and ran the latter through a series of motor skill tests. The blueberry-fed mice had best motor behavioral studying skills and memory than their operate group counterpart. On suppleMentary examination, it was found that the blueberry-fed mice had a marked decrease in oxidative stress in two regions of the brain. The blueberry-fed mice also out-performed those in the operate group in tests to decree rats with best keeping neurons.

ExperiMents On Humans

Joseph and other researchers are presently engaged on tests on the corollary of eating blueberries on humans. Those who eat a cup of blueberries a day have been found through first results to out-perform the operate group on motor skills test. Those who eat blueberries performed best than those who do not by 5 to 6%.

Proanthocyanidins

Blueberries have been discovered by researchers at Rutgers University, New York to comprise compounds called proanthocyanidins. This aggregate is belief to promote urinary tract health as well as to reduce the risk of infections, problems regularly connected with the aging process. The aggregate protects aging population from the qoute by preventing bacteria from lining the walls of the urinary tract.

Blueberries And Nutrition

Apart from antioxidants, blueberries also comprise substances such as carotenoids, ellagic acid, fructose, fiber, flavonoids and other minerals. These compounds have been known over the years to prevent or slow down the aging process.

Conclusively, take at least a cup of blueberries everyday. You'll peruse the health benefits of the plant, as well as perform a slow down in the aging process.

Rabbiteye Blueberries Verses Southern and Northern Highbush

Rabbiteye Blueberries Verses Southern and Northern Highbush

Introduction
Rabbiteyes get the name rabbiteye from the fact that the blueberries are pinkish-white unripe resembling the eyes of an albino rabbit before they turn blue. Highbush blueberries (V. Corymbosum) grow plainly in northeastern United States. One of the most coarse wild northern highbush blueberries that is still very beloved is Rubel which is very high in antioxidants. Rubel is one of the oldest varieties from the early 1900's. Highbush bushes are not called highbush in relation to rabbiteye plants in fact it is shorter than rabbiteye plants. Highbush has its name because in comparison to lowbush blueberries it is taller. Lowbush commonly yield small berries that are excellent for use in pastries. Rubel is an example of this type of blueberry and is very high in antioxidants. an additional one coarse blueberry bush name is Southern Highbush Blueberry. Southern Highbush blueberries bushes are often a cross in the middle of a rabbiteye and a northern highbush or lowbush blueberry plant. clear of these new southern highbush varieties have low-chill requireMents of only 200 to 300 hours at temperatures of 45 degrees F and lower. This has made it potential to expand blueberry yield as far south as Florida. The chilling hour's requireMent for rabbiteye plants is350 to 650 for quarterly leaf and bloom developMent. The chilling requirements for northern highbush are 650 to 1000 hours.

Rabbiteye Blueberries Verses Southern and Northern Highbush

Rabbiteye Blueberries Verses Southern and Northern Highbush

Southern highbush varieties
Southern highbush varieties do offer several important advanTAGes such as being thinner skinned and the fact that they ripen 1 to 3 weeks earlier than the earliest ripening rabbiteye cultivars. The blueberries from southern highbush are as large as and often larger than rabbiteye blueberries which make it more desirable for fresh and processing markets. The plants are less vigorous, and plants do not become as tall as rabbiteyes, they are ordinarily lower yielding, and are more vulnerable to diseases and insects. The low chilling requirement of the southern highbush promotes very early flowering and much greater danger of late spring frosts damage.

Rabbiteye blueberries
Rabbiteyes flower before highbush blueberries, development them more susceptible to spring frosts. Highbush blueberries can also be affected by spring frost and the time they flower time may only be a week or two later. But a week or two in the spring can be the incompatibility in the middle of having a crop and losing the crop or having a smaller crop. Even though they bloom later than rabbiteye, most highbush blueberries ripen about a month before the rabbiteye. The fruits of Highbush blueberry are typically larger; their fruit is jucier, and their skin is thinner. Potential of highbush after icy is quite high while the skin of rabbiteyes after icy becomes tougher. When it comes to eating fresh the rabbiteyes may be somewhat sweeter. After freezing, highbush blueberries might may be more tender. Highbush blueberries are vulnerable to several diseases. Rabbiteyes are virtually disease free and tend to have much longer fruitful lives. In 20 years the rabbiteyes will still be producing but the highbush may not.

Northern Highbush blueberries
Northern high-bush varieties are the most widely planted blueberries in the world. They are types of bushes that need a high number of "chill hours" to get their fruit set. If these northern high-bush varieties do not get the required number of chill hours they will not produce. These bushes are rated zone 4 through zone 7 which includes most of the Central, Western, mid-West, and Eastern United States as well as some parts of Canada. Highbush (northern) blueberries will do well in most locations in Kentucky, while rabbiteyes may do alright in warm southern parts. In Kentucky rabbiteyes flower one to one and a half weeks before highbush blueberries development them more susceptible to late spring frost damage. Harvest for rabbiteye is any way later than that of highbush cultivars.

Variety Selection
Rabbiteyes need to be cross-pollination in order to be fertilized. Rabbiteyes are not self pollinating. You must plant more than one collection for cross-pollination to occur. It is suggested that you plant both highbush and rabbiteye in favorable growing zones that have distinct ripening times. That way you can have blueberries practically the whole season and you can decide for yourself which blueberries you prefer. The distinct species of both cultivars have blueberries that vary in sweetness and taste.

Favorite northern highbushes include Hannah's choice, Blueray, Bluegold, Bluecrop,. Duke, Elliot, and Jersey.

Favorite southern highbushes include 'Ozarkblue, Legacy, Misty, Gulf Coast, O'Neal Sharpblue and Sunshine blue,.
Ozarkblue is not a rabbiteye any way like rabiteyes is drought resistance. Ozarkblue is a beloved collection that has other outstanding characteristics. It is not bothered by heat, does not need as much irrigation, resists spring frosts, and is one of the very sufficient plants producing excellent highbush berries. Unlike rabbiteye it is self pollinating. It is a mid/late crop, just before the rabbiteyes.

Favorite rabbiteye plants include Climax, Brightwell, Premier, Tifblue, and Powderblue.
Premier and Tifblue are coarse choices for rabbiteyes. They are both very productive. Premier Rabbiteye has excellent flavor and it market very well. Tifblue is the newest ripening of the rabbiteye varieties.

Tifblue is carefully among best rabbiteyes. The Tiftblue blueberries are among the most flavorful rabbiteye blueberries. They are more capable of surviving cold than other rabbiteye blueberries varieties. It should probably be the main rabbiteye collection in any garden. Tifblue blueberry is a hybrid cultivar that has helped originate the rise of the dramatic growth in growing rabbiteye blueberries. This growth has industrialized into a new blueberry Agricultural bonanza that is reshaping the cheaper of the South.

By selecting several varieties with distinct ripening times the length of your harvest time can be spread out. Rabbiteyes do not ripen all at the same time. The berries may ripen over a several week period. Here are some of the most beloved rabbiteye blueberries today according to their ripening season.

Tenderloin Medallions With Marchand De Vin and Blueberries

Tenderloin Medallions With Marchand De Vin and Blueberries

The tip of a whole beef-tenderloin is the narrow section left after fillets and chateaubriand have been sliced off. Sliced and flattened slightly, the tip makes itsybitsy medallions for this dish. It takes less than a itsybitsy to sear the medallions that will be smothered in this kicked-up classic French sauce. The incommunicable to this sauce is to use a good red wine like a Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon for the reduction. Any wine fit to drink is fit to cook in a sauce but some are good than others. The Merlot with its fruity tones pAirs well with the acidity of the sweet blueberries. The subtle flavors of roasted shallots and garlic, and sauteed earthy mushrooms equilibrium the fruit flavor and allow the robust steak flavor to come through.

Serve this dish over fettuccine, mashed potatoes, rice pilaf or spaghetti squash.

Ingredients for 2 servings:
o 3 shallots, unpeeled
o 6 garlic cloves, unpeeled
o 1 Tbsp olive oil, divided
o 1 Tbsp butter to saute mushrooms
o 1 cup sliced mushrooms, crimini, chanterelles or mushroom of your choice
o 1 cup red wine, Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon
o 1/2 cup fresh blueberries, plus 2 Tbsp for garnish
o 12 oz beef tenderloin, sliced ½ inch thick, flattened slightly for medallions
o Juice from seared medallions
o 1 Tbsp fresh tarragon, chopped and 2 sprigs for garnish
o Sea salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste
o 1 Tbsp cold butter to bind sauce

Method:
1. Place shallots and garlic in a small ovenproof pan or dish. Drizzle with 1 tsp of olive oil. Roast at 350° F. For 15 minutes or until tender. Take off from pan and cool to touch.
2. Peel shallots and mince. Squeeze garlic cloves to excerpt flesh and mince.
3. Sauté mushrooms in butter and 1 tsp olive oil until most of the liquid has been absorbed.
4. Add shallots and garlic, saute for 2 minutes, add wine and bring to a boil. Lower heat to a simmer and cut wine by one-third.
5. Add blueberries and cook over medium heat until berries burst, about 6 minutes.
6. Salt and pepper medallions of beef on both sides. Sear medallions in a non-stick skillet with 1 tsp olive oil over medium high heat for 15-30 seconds each side. Take off from pan and let rest on a plate for 5 minutes. (A well seasoned flat grill may be used instead of a non-stick skillet.)
7. Pour juices from the plate of meat into the sauce, add tarragon and salt and pepper to taste. gently swirl 1 Tbsp butter into sauce to bind it. ReplaceMent the meat medallions to the sauce and spoon the sauce over the meat.

keeping Young Eating Anti-Aging Blueberries

keeping Young Eating Anti-Aging Blueberries

One of my families beloved summer camping memories dates to when we found our tents pitched next to a small blueberry patch. Not only was the patch small so were the blueberries, but not their taste. Sumptuous may be the best term to divulge the flavor of the wild blueberry pancakes we all wolfed down with glee.

The taste and fun of eating our own wild picked berries was memorable, and wee did we realize then that we were giving our bodies as well as our taste buds a treat.

Blueberries, it turns out, are one of the healthiest Foods you can eat. They are packed with a wide range of micro-nutrients that not only safe the body from disease, but are also believed to posses anti-aging abilities.

High Antioxidant Value

Blueberries along with plums and strawberries have the top total anti-oxidant properties of any Food. They have been called super fruits. Their anti oxidant properties help neutralize free radicals that are created by the bodies own natural processes as well as fight those absorbed by the body as toxins from the environMent colse to us.

While most of this work is done invisibly at the molecular level within each of the billions of cells that make up your body, the net results appears to be one of increased longevity of cells and the organs they make up. The net result is a healthier body, and a less run down one. In other words, they help you look, feel and stay younger than you might otherwise.

Blueberries include 14 mg or Vitamin C and 0.8 mg Vitamin E per 1 cup of blueberries. These vitamins are vital to your bodies war against free radicals. But blueberries also include lesser known anti-oxidants such as anthocyanins and phenolics.

Neuron Protection

The blend anthocyanin is understanding to slow down age-related loss in Mental capacity of the brain in humans. Population who tend to eat more blueberries are understanding to have great functioning motor behavior learning and memory.

Anthocyanin is the component that gives blueberries their color and are understanding to be the key factor of the blueberry's breathtaking antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Tests with rats by Tufts University researcher, James Joseph showed vital definite effects to equilibrium and coordination for test groups that were feed a blueberry rich diet. A similar group feed a strawberry enhanced diet also did well, however the blueberry diet did the best.

Dr. Joseph believes the benefits stem from yet another set of micro nutrients called flavonoids, a phytochemical that seems to have vital impact on cell membranes.

These studies advise that blueberries and similar Foods may be useful to those suffering poor equilibrium and coordination linked to aging.

Prevention of Disease

A serving of blueberries provides a relatively low glycemic load while providing a diverse range of nutrients.

This also means there are fewer calories (good news for calorie-Watchers) in a serving full of phytochemicals and nutrients such as iron, vitamins C and E. Because of the phytochemicals present, the risk of developing a variety of degenerative diseases may also be prevented.

Specifically, the Anthocyanins, proanthocyanidins, flavonols, and tannins found in blueberries may help prevent cancer by inhibiting some cancer mechanisms. These components safe the Dna in each of your cells from damage and/or the disintegration caused by free radicals.

At a discussion on berry condition benefits, a variety of reports advise that eating blueberries and other similar fruits like cranberries may heighten the cognitive deterioration occurring in Alzheimer's disease and other conditions of aging. It is also believed that Blueberries may help lower the damages of stroke.

Researches have also shown that blueberries may help prevent urinary tract infections (Uti), hypertension, and hypercholesterolemia which can lead to potentially fatal heart disease.

While these benefits of blueberries focus on diseases and getting old, the value of blueberries is literally in their capability to help us stay young.

Now one cannot live on blueberries alone, but if you are seeing for a "favorite food" to add to your personal "Staying Young" strategy it would do you well to think recovery room for this breathtaking wee super fruit, the Blueberry.

Blueberries - The Super Food

Blueberries - The Super Food

Blueberries are called a Super Food because they are stock full of antioxidants, phytonutrients ("nutrient from a plant"), polyphenols and anthocyanins. These are big words - but most importantly - they mean that blueberries can do qualified things for your body as well as your brain.

Blueberries are a low glycemic fruit - which means that when you eat blueberries you don't get a quick spike in your blood sugar. Low glycemic Foods help with weight operate and diabetes and can genuinely lower glucose levels. either on a low carbohydrate diet or not, we all need to eat some carbs in order to live - our brains need carbs for energy. Blueberries fit in perfectly with a low carb diet because they are low glycemic. The glycemic index of a carbohydrate shows how swiftly its consumption increases blood sugar levels. Values range from 1 (the slowest) to 100 (the Fastest, the index of pure glucose). Fructose, (the sugar in fruits) has limited supervene on blood sugar.

You've probably noticed that blueberries are richly colored - a deep dark blue. explore studies have shown that fruits and vegetables with the darkest colors are regularly the best for you. This means their skins have those super nutrients with the big names.

Blueberries cut oxidative stress and some explore has recomMend blueberries can help prevent the sagging skin and bags as we age. Reducing oxidative stress as we age can also help heighten thinking behavior, along with the kind seen in senility. Oxidative stress has been shown to be related to aging, cancer and Alzheimer's. Blueberries have been shown in studies to heighten cognitive performance, and some studies have shown a connection with improveMents in Alzheimer's Disease, although these are inconclusive and need added study. Studies have shown that blueberry juice can growth verbal memory doing in those with mild cognitive (memory) impAirMent and motor function.

Blueberries also growth neuronal communication in the brain. Dementia is an addition problem in the Us and blueberries have been shown to heighten memory in the older adult which includes word list recall and improved pAir connect learning. Blueberries also helps the brain neurons from degenerating.

Rat studies have shown (in age equivalent of 70 in humans ) an improvement in equilibrium and co-ordination. This could help older Americans with the hazardous problem of falling.

The foods we eat work on our biological age - the way we look and feel. So eat your blueberries. Some people eat blueberries raw with nothing on them. My popular ways of eating blueberries are: About 1/2 cup of blueberries (washed first with fruit/veggie wash & rinsed) is about 40 calories, then sprinkle a packet of Splenda or other sweetener on top and 2 tablespoons of whipped cream. The whipped cream (Original Reddi Wip) only adds total fat of 1 gram, and less than 1 gram of carbohydrate. You could use any kind of whipped cream, just take a look at the fat and carbohydrate article first. another delicious way is 1/2 cup of washed and rinsed blueberries, add slices of bananas to taste, 1 packet of synthetic sweetener and the whipped cream. You could also mix some raw blueberries into vanilla yogurt - adding more remedial benefits to the yogurt. These are delicious, wholesome snacks, and also have the advanTAGe of fiber.
